We are excited to announce our newest Indigenous partnership with the Ermineskin Cree Nation (ECN), a member of the Four Nations of Maskwacis, Alberta. Challenger has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Ermineskin Resource Development (ERD). Under the MOU, Challenger will strategically partner with ERD in order to generate income and job opportunities for Ermineskin Cree Nation Citizens. Challenger will also commit to utilizing local businesses and work with ERD to provide skills training where appropriate.
Ermineskin Resource Development is a First Nation-owned and operated company. ERD works to create employment, business opportunities, training programs and contracting, all while ensuring oil and gas companies respect the needs, traditions and way of life of the Ermineskin Cree Nation.
We’re a small First Nation and a small company, so we partner with companies which have experience with First Nations and who are accommodating in making sure that everyone is happy. They hire our people, we get subcontracting opportunities, and they are made more competitive in their contracting. We make sure that these companies are well-known and that we happily work with these companies, and they give us a revenue stream, training and employment.”
Trevor Saulteaux, VP – Operations, Ermineskin Resource Development
Ermineskin Resource Development has a limited partnership agreement with the Ermineskin Cree Nation, reducing risks and liability to the First Nation, and allows the company to partner with Challenger in order to manage projects too big to approach on its own.
Our new partnership with Ermineskin Resource Development is a great step forward in Challenger’s continuing efforts to develop meaningful and mutually beneficial relationships with Indigenous Peoples. While building on Challenger’s long history of Indigenous partnerships in Canada, it is our first such relationship in Alberta.
Through our joint venture, we look forward to providing survey, mapping and geomatics services to existing and new clients within the traditional territory of the Ermineskin Cree Nation.
